Avalara integration for sales tax

ElasticFunnels asks Avalara for the tax on each checkout, for US and international addresses, and adds it to the order before the customer pays.

What it does

What the Avalara integration does

At checkout, ElasticFunnels sends the destination address and the order lines to Avalara, gets the tax back and shows it in the order summary. The tax amount is stored on the order.

  • Real-time tax for US and international addresses
  • Set an Avalara tax code per product, or mark a product tax exempt
  • Add more than one tax integration: they are tried in order if one fails
  • The collected tax shows in reports and in Shopify order sync

FAQ

Avalara integration FAQ

Does the Avalara integration work for orders outside the US?

Yes. The Avalara integration calculates tax for US and international addresses. TaxJar and TaxCloud cover US addresses only.

What about EU and UK VAT?

The merchant Tax configuration tab also has its own VAT settings: seller country, B2B reverse charge and VAT ID validation.

What happens if Avalara does not answer?

ElasticFunnels tries your next tax integration. If none returns a rate, the order goes through with no tax and a warning is logged.

Avalara returns TaxCalculationFailed. What now?

The usual cause is a missing company code. Check that the merchant tax settings have the company code from your Avalara account.

Does ElasticFunnels file my tax returns?

No. ElasticFunnels calculates and collects the tax at checkout. Filing is handled outside ElasticFunnels.
